HCSA Trustee Simon Walsh has received the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the King’s New Year Honours.
He received the prestigious accolade for ‘services to the NHS and Charity’.
Simon has been a member of the HCSA all his career, was Chairman from 2013-2015 and has also served as Deputy Chief Officer and Acting Chief Officer
He said: “I am both humbled and honoured to receive the British Empire Medal especially as I approach the end of an immensely rewarding 40-year journey in NHS procurement. I am also very pleased that the recommendation referred specifically to my time with the HCSA which has given me so much reward and satisfaction.”
Simon also paid tribute to the support he has had from all his colleagues in NHS procurement and the HCSA and gave special mention to his husband Stefan.
Simon added: “On a personal note thank you to my partner and latterly husband Stefan who has in so many ways been alongside me and enabling me to achieve my career goals.”
HCSA Chair Mark Roscrow MBE welcomed the official acknowledgment of Simon’s extraordinary career in NHS procurement.
He said: “I am delighted to see that his Majesty the King has awarded a BEM to Simon Walsh in the New Year’s Honours list. The award recognises Simon's dedication to the NHS and to charity and on behalf of all his colleagues across the HCSA family we send our warmest congratulations. As Simon enters the final year of his working life it is a very fitting recognition for all his hard work and the high esteem in which he is held across the NHS procurement and supply chain community.
