The NHS is spending more than £200 million a year storing records in boxes and filing cabinets because hundreds of sites remain entirely reliant on paper.
A report by The King’s Fund think tank shows that only five NHS Trusts in England have fully digitised patient records, despite government pledges to make the NHS paperless.
In total, there are 209 NHS sites — such as diagnostic centres or hospital clinics — which use only paper records, according to analysis of medical records data.
