Following publication of the Government’s inaugural MedTech Strategy last year and vision of Right Product, Right Price, Right Place, the intention is to put in place a standard methodology for applying value based procurement for Medical Technology.
The aim is to ensure the full potential of Medical Technology beyond just unit cost is considered and a greater consistency to streamline the bidding process for both industry and Trusts.
A draft methodology is expected to be shared this month and feedback is requested from procurement, industry and patient groups with the aim to finalise and launch the methodology as a “playbook” by the end of this calendar year.
It is hoped this will enable a wide area of engagement and input into the methodology so that the final design is of genuine help to both the procurement community and the industry as a whole.
Stay tuned for updates!
